Bernard Joseph McLaughlin

Bernard Joseph McLaughlin ( born November 19, 1912 in Buffalo, New York, USA) is a retired Auxiliary Bishop of Buffalo.

Life

Bernard McLaughlin came in 1925 in the newly established seminary in Buffalo one. After studying at the Pontifical Collegium urbanum in Rome he received on December 21, 1935 in St. John Lateran Basilica to the priesthood. In 1936 he returned to the Diocese of Buffalo. After pastoral work at St. Joseph 's Cathedral in Buffalo in 1942, he entered into the service of the Ordinariate and became secretary of the diocesan tribunal. In 1946 he became assistant to the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor and later on 16 December 1953 Cancellarius curiae. He has also acted as a pastor in the parishes Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Buffalo, Blessed Sacrament in Kenmore and St. John the Baptist in Kenmore.

On April 6, 1950 he was awarded Pope Pius XII. the honorary title Surplus Chamberlain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ). Pope Paul VI. conferred him on 4 December 1967 the title of Apostolic prothonotary. On September 14, 1968 he was invested in New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral by Grand Prior Terence Cooke, Archbishop of New York, in the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.

In the Diocese of Buffalo, he was a member of the Diözesanconsulta and vicar general and diocesan attorney at the court and secretary of the diocesan synod. At the Diocesan Labor Management College he became a professor of work ethic. McLaughlin was chaplain of the Catholic reactive work.

On December 28, 1968 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Titular Bishop of Motula and auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Buffalo. He received his episcopal consecration by Pope Paul VI. personally on January 6, 1969 at St. Peter's Basilica; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops Curia Sergio Pignedoli and Ernesto Civardi.

1988 his resignation was accepted by Pope John Paul II.

As auxiliary bishop emeritus, he continued working in confirmations in his diocese and took representative tasks. In 2012, he celebrated his 100th birthday.
