Bernd Olbricht

Bernd Olbricht ( born October 17, 1956 in Gnoien ) is a former German canoeist.

Bernd Olbricht launched for the SC Neubrandenburg, where he was coached by Helmut Hörentrup and Horst Kautzke. Since 1976, the then 19 -year-old Olbricht formed with the eight years older, experienced Joachim Mattern a double in the double kayak, which had already beaten the world's elite before the Summer Olympics in 1976. At the games in Montreal, the team won the gold medal in the 1000 m and the silver medal over half the distance. A year later, they won the title over 500 meters at the World Championships in Tampere. Since 1978, he went with Rüdiger Helm. The new double immediately won the world title over 500 meters. After his playing career Olbricht studied and became a teacher / educator Hort. Later he worked as a trainer in Neubrandenburg for the DOSB. After the reunification, he has his own business with a small taxi company.
