Bernhard I, Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg

Bernhard I, Prince of Anhalt- Bernburg (* 1218, † 1287 ) was a reigning sovereign anhaltischer of the family of Ascanians.

Life

Bernhard was the second son of Prince Heinrich of Anhalt and his wife Irmgard, daughter of Landgrave Hermann of Thuringia.

After his father's death in 1252 his three sons divided the land among themselves. Bernhard received Anhalt- Bernburg.

Marriage and issue

On February 3, 1258 in Hamburg Bernhard married the Princess Sophia ( 1240-1284 ), daughter of Abel, King of Denmark.

The couple had the following children:

  • John I († June 5, 1291 ) - Prince of Anhalt -Bernburg (together with Bernhard II )
  • Albrecht I of Anhalt († September 14, 1324 ) - Bishop of Halberstadt,
  • Bernhard II (* 1260, † after December 26, 1323 ) - Prince of Anhalt -Bernburg,
  • Heinrich ( † March 14, 1324 ), prior of the Dominican convent of St. Catherine in Halberstadt,
  • Rudolph,
  • Sophie ( † after May 15, 1322) - married to Count Dietrich II of honing stone before 28 February 1282nd
