Bertil Norman

Bertil Norman ( born June 29, 1929) is a former Swedish orienteers. Norman was part of the Swedish world champion season of 1966.

Already in 1947, Norman was Swedish champion on the long distance for the first time. In the following two decades, he won a total of eight Swedish championship title. As in the 1960s, the first European and World Championships were held in orienteering, Norman was part of the Swedish squad. In the European Championship debut in 1962 in the Norwegian Løten Norman was in a single run over 16.5 kilometers behind Norwegian Magne Lystad Vice European Champion. In 1963 he won at the Nordic Championships in both the individual as well as with the relay silver. Norman took over the next two years in part at the European Championships and at the Nordic Championships and was able to win each bronze team. The greatest success up to that celebrated the Swedish squadron at the first World Championships in 1966 in the Finnish Fiskars. With Karl Johansson, Anders Morelius and Göran Öhlund he won the gold medal. Norman was at this event already 37 years old and was able to get two years later with the Swedish Championships in night orienteering his last major title.

In the years 1961, 1962 and 1964 Norman ( Årets oriente rare ) in Sweden was elected orienteer of the year.
