The album first appeared on 11 March 2008 at Walmart, on 15 April it was released outside of the Walmart Group in the United States. The soundtrack to the film Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert accompanied, ran in February 2008 in the cinemas, which caused plenty of confusion and discontent in the United States. In the credits of the concert film, the album is still listed as a soundtrack.
The song Rockstar, which can also be heard on the soundtrack to the second season of the series Hannah Montana, was published in January 2008 in order to advance to promote the 3D movie. The music video for the title shows recordings of the Best of Both Worlds Tour.
