The song was produced by Lukasz Gottwald ( Dr. Luke ) and published on August 25, 2013 as part of the iTunes pre-order of their fourth album Bangerz by RCA Records. The song was mixed to positive reception, with the accompanying music video was assessed by several critics negative.

Wrecking Ball was written by Sacha Skarbek, Stephan Moccio, Lukasz Gottwald, Maureen Anne McDonald and Henry Walter Russell. The production of the song was taken over by Gottwald and Walter Russell.

The recording of the song has already been confirmed in July 2013 in an interview with the magazine Idolator.

It is believed that Wrecking Ball Cyrus relationship with actor Liam Hemsworth discussed, with whom she is engaged since 2012.

The video was released on 9 September 2013 VEVO. It begins with a close up of Cyrus, crying in front of a white background. The singer is also shown only oxblood - colored ankle boot wearing sitting on a wrecking ball and a sledgehammer licking. These scenes were assessed by several critics negative. 24 hours of its release, the video reached 19.3 million clicks, and thus broke the VEVO record of One Direction ( 12.3 million ). Director of the music video is the photographers Terry Richardson.

Charts

Wrecking Ball was also placed at number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100, at number 44 of the Canadian Hot 100 and # 19 of the Irish charts, before the song was released as a single. In the first two weeks, the song sold in the U.S. about 291,000 times by download sales.
