Best Party

Besti flokkurinn ( engl. the Best Party) is a political party in Reykjavík, Iceland's capital.

History

The party was established in 2009 as a political platform of the popular comedian in Iceland Jón Gnarr. It has no party program and is considered a fun party.

Besti flokkurinn joined the municipal election in 2010 in Reykjavík with unusual election promises such as " Free beach towels in each pool " and " Polar bear in the zoo " to. In early March 2010, the list of candidates was presented for the municipal election. In addition to the leading candidates Jón Jónsson Gnarr occurred Dagur Kári and Frosti Örn Gunnarsson, the two oldest sons of Jón Gnarr, ranked 14 and 15 of the list also as candidates. Election results

In the municipal elections of 2010, the party won 34.7 % of the vote and went with 6 of 15 seats as the strongest force in the local parliament. Jón Gnarr became the new mayor of Reykjavik.
