Bezděz (Česká Lípa District)

Bezděz ( German: Schloßbösig ) is a municipality in the micro-region Podralsko Okres in Ceska Lipa, Liberec region, in the north of the Czech Republic. The place has the Euro region Neisse connected.

History

Shortly after in 1185 founded a ducal Villicus courtyards. From this period is now only the church, preserved today in the Baroque style. In the year 1264 the first written documents about a royal Villicus date. For 1278, a Viscount is busy on the newly built Bezděz.

In the same year the village was raised below the castle of King Wenceslas II to the city. The lords tried to upgrade the place by building a square city center. After 1300, the new lord of the castle Hynek Berka of Dubé ( Bela pod today Bezdězem, German white water) asked for the transfer of the city rights to the re-establishment Nový Bezděz. Thus, the development of the city was stopped. Another disadvantage is that water scarcity had an impact in the town. 1898 a large part of the town was destroyed by fire.
