Biancolella

Biancolella is a white grape variety from Italy. It is primarily grown in Campania and in Ischia, where the white wines produced from it are among the best. It is used in the DOC wines Campi Flegrei, Capri, Costa d' Amalfi, Ischia and Sorrento Peninsula. The white wines of Ischia she gives usually blended with Forastera their special character. In the 1990s, an area under vines of 609 acres was raised in Italy. In Corsica (→ viticulture in Corsica ) the cultivation was abandoned, although near Bastia and San Martino di Lota quite pleasing white wines were produced.

In Italy is still a variant of Biancolella known. The species is named Biancolella sylvatica and is distinguished by a deep gebuchtetes sheet as well as by lower must weights.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open.
  • The medium-sized leaves are three-to five-lobed and sinuate little deep but wide. The petiole is V-shaped open. The sheet is perforated. The teeth are very large compared to the varieties.
  • The cylindrical to conical grape is shouldered, small to medium in size and dichtbeerig. The oblong berries are medium in size and off-white to light yellow in color.

The grape ripens about 30 days after Chasselas and is thus regarded as late maturing. Biancolella is a variety of the noble vine (Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphrodite flowers and is thus self- fruiting. When the wine-growing economic drawback is avoided, no return delivered to male plants need to grow.
