Birger Holmqvist

Birger Ivar " Bigge " Holmqvist ( born December 28, 1900 in Stockholm, † April 9, 1989 ) was a Swedish professional ice hockey and Bandyspieler.

Career

At club level Birger Holmqvist first played in the season 1920/21 for the Kronoberg IK. From 1922 to 1928, the attackers played for IK Göta in the Swedish Championship and won in the years 1922, 1923, 1924, 1927 and 1928 respectively to the national championship with his team. Parallel to the game mode with the IK Göta the Swede ran regularly for the Berlin Ice Club in Germany and won with this multiple German champion.

Internationally

For Sweden Holmqvist took part in the European Championships in 1922, 1923 and 1924. In the years 1922 and 1924 he won the silver in 1923 even the gold medal with his team. In addition, he was in the squad of his country at the Olympic Winter Games in 1924 in Chamonix and 1928 in St. Moritz. At the Winter Games in 1928 he won the silver medal with his team. As the best European team at the Olympic Winter Games, he won the European Championship with his team.
