Black Pockau

The Black Pockau south of the nuns rock between Kühnhaide and Pobershau

( Called Czech Cerna, also black water) The Black Pockau is a left tributary of the Floeha in the Erzgebirge. The almost unobstructed torrent with a length of 33 km is known for its gorge in the central part of the valley ( Kerbsolental ).

The proceeds from bogs dark waters turn the river dark. The name Pockau, which was already mentioned in a similar form in 1292, probably comes from the Czech and signifies the opposite direction, ie from Bohemia to the north run-off water.

Course

The Black Pockau rises 890 m above mean sea level in a peat bog in the northeast of the Haßberges Bohemian Erzgebirge. Here is also the effluent to the Czech Republic Chomutovka ( Assigbach ).

After 500 meters you will reach the old road between Přísečnice ( Preßnitz ) and Kalek ( Kallich ), the German - Czech border and flows through the Satzunger community pond. From then on she marked up to and including the local situation of Kühnhaide to 13 km in length, the state border. In this section, it passes the villages Statutes ( formerly the opposite side village located on the Bohemian Ulmbach ( Jilmová ) was removed after 1945 ) and Reitzenhain ( formerly the opposite side village located on the Bohemian Grove stimulus ( Pohraniční ) was also deserted ).

In Reitzenhain, from the raft pond at the New World mill, the Reitzenhainer headed stuff ditch surcharge water from the Black Pockau to the former mines at Marienberg. At the eastern end of Kühnhaide water is also derived: The appropriate to Wander Green ditch once led surcharge water for mining on the Wild Mountain near Pobershau. Even the once over Situated on the Bohemian side village Kienhaid ( Načetín I) was abandoned. East of Kühnhaide the flux varies its main direction from northeast to north.

The subsequent valley to the Kniebreche, the gorge-like Schwarzwassertal, is one of the most scenic German low mountain valleys and is under protection (NSG Schwarzwassertal ). In the southern section of a dam was planned 3.5 million cubic meters of storage space to 1985, which would also Kühnhaide fallen victim. The plans were abandoned.

Between Kühnhaide ( 750m asl) and Neusorge ( 450m above sea level) the block- rich riverbed has cut deep with the reduced smoking from side valleys waterfalls in the gneisses of the desk-like being dumped Ore Mountains (140 m slope at 5 km river course ). A remarkable geological outcrop showing the association ratios of different groups gneiss of the Erzgebirge mountains, southeast of Rear base on the rock wall below the Vogeltoffelfelsenaussicht ( Geotoptafel to the observation deck ).

When crossing this ravine-like section of the Schwarzwassertals are left and right of the bank, or, historical significant evidence of settlement of the Ore happened in the immediate vicinity. So the disposed castles Nonnenfelsen and love stone and with the latter probably related Wüstung Ullersdorf. Furthermore show towering rock (Devil's Wall, Nonnenfelsen, Katzenstein and curtain wall ) the strong erosive action of the river.

In the remote district Pobershauer Rear reason, a hydroelectric power plant is fed by an artificial moat. Here is the Naturschutzstation Pobershau, which holds various offers for people interested in nature. At the Kniebreche at Rittersberg the Red Pockau opens a. From there it is only referred to in old maps as Pockau or Large Pockau.

North of the Kniebreche located on either side of the gradient, in turn, historically important documents of settlement. On the right bank, near the town Zöblitz, the Outbound Nidberg castle is on the more than 50 meters above the valley floor uplifting lion's head rocks. On the left bank there is the slip face lying on a deserted Sweden trench, a former mining settlement.

In low Lauterstein the Black Pockau passes the ruins of the castle Lauterstein. Further north ends of springing at Ansprung Knesenbach one. In the course of the Strobel - mill is happening where the Lauterbach joins, also the hydropower was here temporarily used. Here there is a level of the Saxon State Office for Environment and Geology; the regularly updated readings are available on the internet. In the community Pockau the Black Pockau leads finally to the Floeha.

Economic use

In addition to the scale of the historic mining ditches exist below Kühnhaide and at the Kniebreche two active military facilities for the use of hydropower, which are controversial because of their impact on the river bed.

Tourism and Sport

Walking and cycling is possible along the river and the Green trench in Schwarzwassertal.

The river is ideal for canoeing and white water rafting. The "classic " 10 km long stretch without exit between reason and Rear Pockau is mobile even at relatively little water. By contrast, some of kilometers require challenging whitewater between Kühnhaide (insert location ) and Rear basic high water levels.

Fishing is possible with permit section of Pobershau to its confluence with the Floeha. The main fish species are rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout, eels and several species of white fish.

Between Kühnhaide and Pobershau several rocks for climbing are used.
