Blair Athol is a whiskey distillery in Pitlochry, Perthshire, Scotland. The distillery buildings are sorted in the Scottish lists of monuments in the B category. The building of the distillery manager is listed in the category C (S).

History

The distillery was founded in 1798 by John Stewart and Robert Robertson under the name Aldour Distillery. The name came from the river located near Allt Dour. 1825 Advanced James Robertson the distillery and then gave her the name of Blair Athol. 1882 bought Peter Mackanzie the distillery.

1932 Blair Athol is closed. 1933 Buy Arthur Bell & Sons Ltd.. the distillery, but until 1949 it was renovated and reopened. 1973 the number of stills was increased from two to four. 1985 United Distillers bought Blair Athol and 1987 opened a visitor center.

Production

The water belonging to the Highlands / Eastern Highlands distillery comes from the Allt Dour Burn ( in German: Otterbach ). The malt used comes from the Glen Ord Maltings. The distillery has a mash tun ( 8.0 tons ) of stainless steel and eight fermentation tanks ( 40,000 liters each ) - four of which are made ​​of larch wood and four stainless steel. Is distilled in two wash stills ( per 13,000 liters ) and two spirit stills ( per 11,500 liters ) which are heated by steam.

Although the Blair Athol whiskey is almost 90 % of Bell's, to produce a blend whiskeys, sells and makes its heart notes, the whiskey is also sold as a single malt.
