Blerick

Blerick ( Limburg: Blierik ) is the left of the Meuse town in the district of the city of Venlo. Blerick is situated between the A67 and the A73. The district counts 27 330 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2007). This Blerick is measured by the population of the second largest district of Venlo. Furthermore Blerick is the area after the largest district of the municipality of Venlo. The district consists of the parts Blerick, Hout - Blerick and Boekend.

History

The name is derived from Blerick Blariacum, a Roman settlement. However, the actual Roman settlement was not in today's Blerick, but probably a little further south-west. Blerick had several throughout history many names, including Blariacum, Blerke, Blerijck, Blerik, Blerick, Venlo - Blerick, Venlo -West. After 1794, the French army occupying the place and thus there was a new administration. Municipalities with less than 5000 inhabitants were combined to form a community. So were Blerick, Baarlo, Bree and Mairie de Bree, later called Maasbree, a unified community. In Blerick, the largest village of this community, there have been efforts to become self - but this did not succeed. Towards the end of the 19th century there was shortage of housing in neighboring Venlo, so you needed more space there. Over time, the city of Venlo therefore tried increasingly to detach Blerick of the community Maasbree and add the Municipality of Venlo. In 1909, these efforts were part of Venlo decisively rejected in Blerick. It was only in 1940 succeeded the city of Venlo, einzugemeinden Blerick. On the morning of May 10, 1940 troops invaded the Wehrmacht in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg; the western campaign began. Blerick was released at the beginning of December 1944. Rail transport

Blerick located on the Staatslijn E ( Rail route Breda - Maastricht ) and the Maaslijn ( rail route Venlo - Nijmegen). Furthermore, since 1868 has Blerick its own train station.
