Blue Grass Airport (IATA: LEX, ICAO: KLEX ) is a public airport located in Fayette County, Kentucky, United States, about 6.4 km west of the city of Lexington. The main building was opened in 1977. The size of the airport area is 3.69 km ² comprising 2 start and runway home. The airport houses in addition also the Aviation Museum of Kentucky.

In 2007, the station building B was expanded with 6 new gates.

Navigation aids

The Tower ( TWR ) sends and receives on the frequency: 119.1 MHz. The airport has several navigation aids. The non-directional beacon ( NDB ) transmits on the frequency: 242 kHz with code LE. The omnidirectional radio range (VOR) transmits on frequency: 112.6 MHz with code HYK.

Incidents

2006 crashed a Canadair CRJ100ER at startup. 49 people died, only one crew member survived. Other fatal incidents occurred in 2002 and 1987.
