Bob Childers

Bob Childers (born Robert Wayne Childers, born November 20, 1946 in West Union, West Virginia, † April 22, 2008 in Stillwater, Oklahoma) was an American country and folk singer. He is considered the "Godfather " of the Red dirts and was compared several times in his career with the likes of Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie.

Biography

Childers was born in West Virginia, but went at an early age to Oklahoma, before he lived in various states, and finally returned to Oklahoma. In the late 1970s he met the singer Jimmy LaFave know who helped him during the recording of his first plate I Is not No Jukebox. In 1986 he moved to Nashville and later to Austin, Texas, where his friend LaFave was already drawn several years earlier. Back to Oklahoma went Childers in 1991, where he experienced his career - high phase, in which he published many albums and even participated in productions of other artists such as The Great Divide or Randy Crouch. In 2003 he was inducted into the Red Dirt Hall of Fame .. The smoker suffered from 2004 of a lung disease and died in 2008 at the age of 61 years in Stillwater, Oklahoma. After his death occurred Red Dirt musicians like Jimmy LaFave, Mike McClure, Stoney LaRue and Tom Skinner on at a tribute concert in his honor.
