Bolesław II Rogatka

Boleslaw II (also Boleslaw II, Boleslaw / Boleslaw the Wild; Polish Bolesław II Rogatka, Czech Boleslav II Lysý Rohatka ( Calvus ) * 1217, † 1278 ) was from 1242 to 1248 Duke of Silesia and from 1248 up to his death in 1278 first Duke of Liegnitz.

Origin and family

Boleslaw was born into the family of the Silesian Piast dynasty. His parents were the Senior Duke of Poland and Duke of Silesia Henry II and Anne of Bohemia, daughter of the Bohemian King Ottokar I. Přemysl. His siblings were, inter alia:

After Hedwig's death, Boleslaw married in 1261 to his second wife, Alenta / Adelheid ( Euphemia ) (ca. 1254-1296/1309 ), daughter of Duke Sambor of Pomerania, and Mathilde von Mecklenburg. This marriage came from the daughter

  • Catherine ( † after 1270), who died in childhood; her body was buried in the monastery church of Trebnitzgrund.

The marriage with Alenta / Adelheid said to have been unhappy after the Duke with Sophia of Dyhrn has taken a love affair. Duchess Adelheid, who did not agree with this relationship, left her husband and returned, completely ill after Pommerellen back. Her marriage to Boleslaw was canceled in 1275.

To 1277, married Duke Boleslaw in morganatic marriage of his mistress Sophia Dyhrn ( 1255/57-1323 ), the daughter of Conrad of Dyhrn and Elisabeth Haug joke. This marriage came only a son, Jaroslaw, who died young.

Life

After the death of his father Henry in 1241 Boleslaw took over the regency over the Duchy of Silesia at the same time for his minor brothers. At the partition of 1248 Boleslaw given the Duchy of Legnica, his brother Henry, the Duchy of Wroclaw. After disputes with his brother Conrad, who resigned in 1249 to the Bishop of Passau, Office, Konrad received the duchy of Glogau. Further disputes led Boleslaw with the Breslau Bishop Thomas to the ecclesiastical immunities. He was taken prisoner and was topped with an interdict. 1252 he appointed Legnica to his capital, which he endowed with German law. In 1274 he came with his nephew Henry IV of Breslau in dispute, threw this into prison and was forced by the Bohemian King Ottokar II to his release.
