Bolesław Szabelski

Bolesław Szabelski ( born December 3, 1896 in Radoryż; † August 27, 1979 in Katowice ) was a Polish composer.

Szabelski studied at the Warsaw Academy of Music organ with Mieczysław Surzyński and composition with Roman Statkowski and Karol Szymanowski. From 1929 to 1939 he was organ and composition teacher at the Music Academy in Katowice; From 1945 he headed once again the organ and composition classes at the Katowice Academy of Music.

Szabelskis name appeared in the so-called Special Investigation book Poland - one created by the Gestapo list of Polish intellectuals, who were to be killed.

He composed five symphonies, a symphonic poem and a Sinfonietta, a suite, an etude and a concerto grosso, a piano concerto and a flute concerto for ten instruments, chamber music and music for piano, organ and choir.
