Bolzano Tramway

The tram Bolzano was built to connect the individual municipalities in Bolzano by rail. At that time, Dodiciville, Bolzano and Gries - Quirein three independent municipalities.

Route

The line was one of today's Guntschnastraße (formerly Stephanie Street ) over the Griesplatz to Talfer bridge, but not along the present road freedom because it was built later. Next she went - sometimes with minor radii - through the city center to the Walther place to come across the tracks of 1907 opened Rittnerbahn. This licensed as a local railway track, she shared the route to Zwölfmalgreiner road. About the inch square rod she reached into the Brenner road, where also the terminus was.

Line 2 was constructed in several phases, as operators of the Adige Valley Railway feared the competition. But the Leifers station was so far from the place that it was useless for the local population. A directly to the village propelled tram was much more pleasant. From Laives the train followed the course of the Brenner road to the underpass just before Virgltunnel to go to the Trent road can. From here, the train arrived on the Dominikanerplatz on Walther Square and into the track of line 1 and the Rittnerbahn. Just before the main train station at the line threaded off again and arrived at its own railhead south of the main entrance.

Decommissioning and relics

Because of the loss-making position of the two tram lines, the emergence of new districts away from the tracks and also the spirit of the times the tram service has been set for December 24, 1948 accordingly. To this date took buses S.A.S.A. (then as a private Società Servizi Atesina Automobilistici ) public transport in Bolzano.

While most facilities tram disappeared in the subsequent period, the old coach house the tram ( corner Horazstraße / Peter -Mayr -Straße) was still used as a bus depot until the 1980s, before there is a new building of the Banca d' Italia was built. The building is located immediately to the north in the core nor the old substation " Talferpark " the Etschwerke, but it was considerably extended compared to its original shape. Apart from that is still found a considerable number of catenary rosettes, especially in the area of the old city between Mustergasse and Sparkassenstraße, however, sometimes beyond the Talfer.

Planned new construction

At the reintroduction of the tram in Bolzano was planned. Construction was originally scheduled for 2012 and 2013, 2014 and 2015 should already be done both lines. A line should run from the city center until after Firmian and from there as a new Überetscher train to Kaltern. The second line should connect the Bolzano railway station and the new district Kaiserau ( in the southwest of Bolzano ). However, high implementation costs prevented the implementation of these plans. News will instead discuss the commissioning of a Metro bus between Bolzano and the Überetsch.
