Bontoc (Mountain Province)

Bontoc is a Philippine municipality in the province of Mountain Province. It has 23,980 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ).

Bontoc is the seat of the provincial government of the province of Mountain Province.

The city is located in the Philippine Cordilleras in the valley of the river Chico.

Founded by a Belgian nun Bontoc Museum documents the lives of the hill tribes in the area, the Igorot, including Kalinga, Isneg, Apayao, Ifugäo, Ibaloi, Bontoc Tingulan and among others from the villages of Sagada, Sadanga, Tuocan and Mainit. In Barangay Alab can find the petroglyphs of Bontoc.

In the city there is the " Mountain Province State Polytechnic College ".

The " Halsema Highway" connects the city to the Mount Data National Park and Baguio in the south and with Sadanga and Tinglayan in the north. 5 km to the west lies Sagada, 2 km to the north the Maligcong rice terraces. On the territory of the municipality lies the volcano Patoc.
