Bozhidar Spasov

Bozhidar Spassow ( Bulgarian Божидар Спасов; born August 13, 1949 in Sofia) is a Bulgarian composer, violinist and university lecturer.

Career

At the age of eight years Spassow began by playing the violin. In the years 1963-1968 he went to a music school, took violin lessons, and studied there from 1968 to 1970 violin and music theory at the Academy of Music in Sofia. In the same year moved to the Spassow Moscow Conservatory and continued his studies in composition, orchestration and music science progresses. 1975 his stage work, The Enchanted was performed for the first time, for which he won the 1978 Award of the Carl -Maria -von- Weber Competition in Dresden. As of that same year, he held a position as a research associate at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, from 1979 on he taught music theory and music history in Plovdiv.

1988 Spassow received first prize in the competition Romer "Valentino Bucchi ". In 1990 he moved to Germany. Since 1992 he is professor at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, currently for solfege and Literature customer. From 2003 to 2004 he also fulfilled a teaching post at the Münster Academy of Music. Many of his works have been performed at prestigious festivals such as at the Darmstadt Summer Courses, the Witten Days for New Chamber Music, World Music Days or Wien Modern. From Spassow are some musicological articles, especially on aspects of new music before.
