Branč

Branč ( until 1927 slovak " Berenc "; Hungarian Berencs ) is a municipality in Slovakia, which is located approximately 12 kilometers southeast of Nitra.

It consists of the two sub- varieties Branč and the 1925 eingemeindeten place Velka Ves ( German Großdorf, Hungarian Nyitranagyfalu ).

History

The place is an old settlement site. There was a settlement here in the Neolithic era, several settlements in the Eneolithic, as well as a very important Bronze Age settlement and burial.

The town was first mentioned in 1156 as Brencu. The etymology is disputed, the original form was in any case Branč ( with a subsequent amendment of the ra in re). From the 12th century it belonged to the royal possessions.

In the municipality stood for a long time, a castle of the same ( not to be confused with the castle Branč in Podbranč ), which was first mentioned in the 13th century. Today, almost nothing is left of it.
