History

The town was founded in 1841 on part of the land of John Peterson, who died during the Texas Revolution. It was named after Paul Bremond, one originating from New York investor, financier and pioneer of railway building, who lived from 1839 Texas Galveston and coresponsible for the construction of several railway lines in Texas, including Galveston and Red River Railroad.

On June 15, 1870 for the first time a train ran into Bremond. In the same year a post office, a local newspaper, the Central Texan and the first school opened. In 1871 there were several shops, six hotels, three doctors, a pharmacy, a lawyer, and the population had risen to 1000. In the 1870s, many Polish immigrants came to Bremond to grow cotton. Due to the large-scale cultivation of cotton was too little space for small farms and by the year 1890, the population had fallen to 387.

After 1878 Francis Marion Wootan had found that the groundwater of the area had a high level of minerals, he founded in the immediate vicinity of the spa town of Bremond Wootan Wells, in which he built four hotels.

1916 a fire destroyed Bremond, and the fire also spread to Wootan Wells, which was completely destroyed in 1921 by another fire and was not rebuilt.
