Brescia Metro

The Metropolitana di Brescia is the metro system in the Italian city of Brescia. It was opened on March 2, 2013, and is the second metro system in the Lombardy region and the seventh in Italy.

History

The first plans for an alternative to the existing bus system began in Brescia in 1986 to counter the rapidly increasing traffic. A first call, in which five participating consortia, was started in 1989. This tender was canceled due to schedule changes, however, in 1996.

By the year 2000, the plans were revised again and again made a tender in which Ansaldo STS in 2003, the contract with the system of a driverless metro, which is already being used, inter alia in Copenhagen, got.

The construction costs will be 750 million euros. These are from the city of Brescia ( 67 million ), the Lombardy region ( 72.3 million ), Brescia SpA Mobilità ( 86 million ), the State ( 284 400 000 ) and by a 30 - year loan ( 240.3 million ) financed.

The trains can carry up to 8,500 passengers per hour and direction at an interval of 180 seconds. With a positive development, the fleet will be increased to 40 trains ( six of them in reserve) and shortened the interval to 90 seconds, which 17,000 persons per hour per direction could be transported. The trains are three parts and have a length of 39 m.
