Brestovany

Brestovany ( German ( Klein-/Groß- ) Brestowan, Hungarian ( Alsó-/Felső- ) Szil - until 1898 Beresztovány ) is a municipality in western Slovakia.

Location and General Description

The municipality is located in the expansive valley of the river Vah, on the railway line Bratislava - Žilina. It is located about 7 km from Trnava.

History

The municipality was created in 1950 by the merger of the previously independent municipalities Malé Brestovany and Veľké Brestovany. The oldest written record of the districts can be found in the year 1113. 1975 was also the community Lovčice, which was created in 1960 by the merger of places Dolné Lovčice and Horne Lovčice, incorporated. 1990 different Dolné Lovčice back out of the town and since then is again a separate municipality dar.
