Breteuil (Oise)

Breteuil (also called Breteuil -sur- Noye ) is a commune with 4415 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Oise in the Picardie region. It belongs to the district of the canton of Breteuil and Clermont.

History

Breteuil is located north of the Oise in the valley of the Noye on Route nationale 1 halfway between Beauvais and Amiens. The place has been inhabited since Gallo-Roman times. In the Middle Ages it developed around the castle of the Counts of Breteuil and founded in 1035, Notre- Dame de Breteuil. The castle was razed in the 15th century, so that today is that there exists the castle hill on the town houses were built in the 19th century. From the Abbey since the revolution are also in ruins.
