Brig-Visp-Zermatt-Bahn ABDeh 8/8

The ABDeh 8/8 gear are EMUs of Brig -Visp- Zermatt -Bahn ( BVZ ) or the successor Matterhorn -Gotthard - Bahn (MGB ).

The railcars are a repeat of the 1960 -built ABDeh 6/6 that have been ordered by the end of the fifties due to an increase in traffic and had faced the then current HGe 4/4 a higher towing capacity of 125 t. The new ABDeh 8/8 had also provided a higher Anhändelast of 175 t. In addition, they differ from their predecessors in the setup: The two car bodies sitting on two bogies on the two outer bogies on two side posts and on the two inner bogies on two central columns. The ABDeh 8/8 close as in the ABDeh 6/6 in Zermatt side, a luggage compartment and Brig side a first - class compartment on, but then follows already towards the center, the entrance platform and only then the toilet and the machine room. In the middle are, as with its predecessors, the two second-class compartments. In addition, they have also propeller shaft and angle salmon gear. The transformer, however, is no longer on the boarding platform, but under the car floor.

In 1980, the aging rubber suspension, which were responsible for frequent derailments, replaced by new Flexicoil suspension.
