The Broken River is a small river in the center of the Australian state of Victoria. It rises north-east of Mansfield below the Bald Hill and flows near Shepparton in the Goulburn River.

The name ( German Broken River ) probably goes back to the fact that the river is in dry periods only of a series of water holes. At high water level, however, the Broken River is one of the fastest flowing rivers in Australia.

The City of Benalla on the river was called after its foundation until the 1850s Broken River.
