Broye Aubigney - Montseugny is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Broye Aubigney - Montseugny situated at an altitude of 197 m above sea level, 6 km north- west of Pesmes and about 40 km west of the city of Besançon (air line). The community extends in the extreme southwest of the department in which Saôneebene, near the mouth of Ognon in the Saône.

The area of ​​25.36 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Saôneebene. The area is bordered to the west by the river Saône, in the south of that of the Ognon whose alluvial plain is on average 190 m. It is mainly agricultural, but also shows some larger forest areas. From the Saône, the municipality's area extends eastward across the valley to the plateau of Montseugny (220 m ) to the extensive grove of Bois lady. With 242 m is reached on a hill north of Montseugny the highest elevation of the community. The south-eastern part of the municipality is occupied by the lowland of Résie, a right side Bach Ognon, and in the extreme southeast has Broye Aubigney - Montseugny share of the forest area of ​​Gros Bois.

History

Finds from the Mesolithic and numerous remains from the Gallo- Roman period, which were found at Broye and Montseugny, point to a very early settlement of the township. Broye developed at an important crossing over the Ognon. In the Middle Ages Broye, Aubigney and Montseugny belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Pesmes. Ecclesiastical included the villages to Montseugny Coming of St John, who settled here in the 12th century. Together with the Franche -Comté they came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

In 1972 merged Broye -lès- Pesmes (1968: 270 inhabitants), Aubigney (1968: 93 inhabitants) and Montseugny (1968: 89 inhabitants) to the municipality Broye -lès- Pesmes - Aubigney - Montseugny, 1974 adopted its present name. Today Broye Aubigney - Montseugny is a member of the 18 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Val de Pesmes.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint- Pierre -et -Paul in Broye was built in 1754-1759 and has, among other things, a crucifix from the 14th century. Next to the church is the rectory, which was also built in the 18th century. In Aubigney the Saint-Nicolas Church, which was built in 1765 and houses a tomb of 1556 stands. Remains of a former manor house have been preserved. In Montseugny is the Church of Notre- Dame de l' Assomption, the former church of St John. From the original building from the 12th century, the Romanesque crypt and part of the chancel is obtained while the ship and the bell tower were rebuilt in 1833-1835. The convent buildings date mainly from the 18th century. All three villages are characterized by numerous houses from the 16th to the 18th century, showing the characteristic style of the Haute -Saône.

Population

With 463 inhabitants ( 2006) Broye Aubigney - Montseugny one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 or 904 persons were on today's municipal area counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded in the last decades.
