Arsans

Arsans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Arsans situated at an altitude of 220 m above sea level, 9 km south-southeast of Gray and about 33 km west-northwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village extends to the south of the department, east of Saôneebene on a plateau on the eastern edge of the Bois lady.

The area of ​​2.48 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside between the valleys of Ognon in the south and Saône in the north. The main part of the area is occupied by a platform, which is an average 220 ​​m. It is composed of Tertiary sediments and is mainly used for agricultural purposes. To the north the plateau is drained by a side stream of Ténise (tributary of the Saône ). To the west is the municipality of soil extends in the Grove of the Bois lady. With 247 m east of the village reached on the wooded hill also the highest elevation of Arsans.

Neighboring communities of Arsans are Noiron in the north, Champtonnay in the east, the south and Valay Lieucourt in the southwest.

History

The origin of Arsans goes back to a grange of the monastery Corneux. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté Arsans came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Arsans is a member of the 18 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Val de Pesmes. Ecclesiastically the place Lieucourt is connected.

Population

With 45 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) Arsans one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 80 people were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Arsans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Gray by Valay. Another road connection with Lieucourt.
