Champtonnay

Champtonnay is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Champtonnay situated at an altitude of 219 m above sea level, 9 km southeast of Gray and 32 km west-northwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the southwest of the department, in the plane of Gray, in the Talniederung the Tenise at the mouth of Ruisseau de Venère.

The area of ​​5.24 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside between the valleys of the Saone in the north and in the south Ognon. From east to west, the area is crossed by the Talniederung the Tenise, which provides for drainage Saône and has a maximum width of one kilometer. The valley is flanked on both sides of the plateau to the west of the Monts de Gy expands and is on average 235 m. It is divided by the small valley of various short tributaries of Tenise, including the Ruisseau de Venère. The plateau is composed of sediments of the Tertiary and Cretaceous, and is partly used for agriculture, partly it is passed by forest. To the west of the municipality of soil in the Bois de la Fiolle and to the southwest up to a top of the Bois d' Arsans enough. Here the highest elevation of Champtonnay is achieved with 259 m.

Neighboring communities of Champtonnay are Cresancey in the north, Onay in the east, and Venère Valay in the south and Arsans and Noiron in the West.

History

The remains of a Roman traffic route point to an early settlement of the area. Is first mentioned Champtonnay in 1267. During the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local rule passed in 1417 to the family of Scey, 1538 at the Perrenot family. Together with the Franche -Comté Champtonnay came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

The village church of Champtonnay was built in the 18th century. From the medieval seat of power ( 12th century), ruins remain. Additional area attractions include the former brickyard (first half of the 19th century ) and the covered Lavoir that once served as a laundry and watering cattle.

Population

With 82 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Champtonnay one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century ( in 1886 141 people were still counted ), a slight population growth has been recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Champtonnay has long been a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road D67, which runs from Gray to Besançon. Further road links exist with Valay and Onay.
