Cresancey

Cresancey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Cresancey situated at an altitude of 216 m above sea level, 8 km southeast of Gray and about 34 km west-northwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the southwest of the department, in the plane of Gray, in the Talniederung the Tenise on the southeastern edge of the Forêt des Hauts Bois.

The area of ​​9.60 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside between the valleys of the Saone in the north and in the south Ognon. From east to west, the area is crossed by the Talniederung the Tenise, which provides for drainage Saône and has a maximum width of one kilometer. The valley is flanked on both sides by a plateau, which is on average 235 m. It is divided by the small valley of various short tributaries of Tenise. The plateau is composed of sediments of the Tertiary and upper Jurassic period and is partly used for agriculture, partly it is passed by forest. In the south of the municipality of soil in the Bois de la Fiolle, in the 248 meters, the highest elevation of Cresancey is achieved ranges. North of the village, the Grove of Forêt des Hauts Bois expands (Wald of Gray), which also houses two fish ponds are ( privately owned ). Neighboring communities of Cresancey are Gray and Battrans in the north, Velesmes - Échevanne and Onay in the east, the south and Champtonnay Noiron in the West.

History

Finds from the Bronze Age indicate a very early settlement of the area. Is first mentioned Cresancey in 1212, when the village church was transferred to the monastery Corneux. In the Middle Ages Cresancey belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government has held the noble family of Cresancey, whose existence is attested since 1274. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Étienne was built in the 18th century and has a remarkable interior. Outside the church stands an iron cross ( 18th century). From the 19th century the castle, but that has a medieval tower dates. Also worth seeing is the Lavoir, which once served as a laundry and watering cattle.

Population

With 192 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Cresancey one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 306 people were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Cresancey has long been a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road D67, which runs from Gray to Besançon. Further road links exist with Noiron and Échevanne.
