Ancier

Ancier is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Ancier situated at an altitude of 192 m above sea level, 3 km east of Gray and about 38 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the southwest of the department, in the plane of Gray, at the outlet of the stream Dhuys in the broad Talniederung the Saône.

The area of 4.42 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of south-east of the Saône. The northern part of the area occupied by the alluvial plain of the Saône, which is on average 187 m. They once formed a vast floodplain and wetland. This is drained by the Dhuys and the Morte and various drainage ditches. To the south runs a step above the adjacent plateau, which is about 30 m higher than the valley floor. With 229 m is reached on the hill southeast of the village is the highest elevation of Ancier. To the east, the municipality's area extends into the forest area of the Bois de Belle Combe. History

Is first mentioned Ancier in 1186th The former marshy area was drained by the monks of the monastery Corneux and reclaimed. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté Ancier came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. To territorial changes occurred in the first half of the 19th century: in 1807 the formerly independent Corneux was merged with Ancier. 1841 Corneux but was removed again and the municipality of Saint - Broing slammed. Today Ancier is a member of the 16- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Val de Gray.

Attractions

The village church of Ancier was largely rebuilt in the 19th century, the bell tower has been preserved from the 18th century.

Population

With 479 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Ancier to the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1906 335 persons were still counted ), was from 1960 to 1990 again recorded a continuous population growth. Since then, the population has declined slightly again.

Economy and infrastructure

Ancier has long been a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. The village has good transport links. It is located near the main road D474 which leads from Gray to Vesoul. Further road links exist with Beaujeu and Battrans.
