Angirey

Angirey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Angirey situated at an altitude of 215 m above sea level, 13 km east of Gray and about 31 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the southwest of the department, in the basin of the Saone, in a depression slightly increased on the eastern edge of the Talniederung of Cabri, on the western edge of the Bois de Petits Gy.

The area of ​​8.87 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of south-east of the Saône. And is bordered on the west by the territory of the Cabri and on the south by the Morte. This ensures the drainage west to the Saône. Both rivers move through vast plains, which have a width of more than one kilometer and average are at 200 m. The fertile alluvial soils used for agriculture. The south-eastern boundary runs along the Ruisseau de la Fontaine Rouge, a short side stream of the Morte. To the north- east, the municipality area extends to the foothills of the Petits Bois de Gy, which are composed of Tertiary deposits. The mostly sandy bottom is covered by a vast forest. With 260 m find the highest mountains of Angirey is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Angirey are Igny and Vellemoz in the north, La Chapelle -Saint- Quillain and Vellefrey -et- Vellefrange in the east, and Citey Choye in the south and Sauvigney -lès -Gray in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Angirey in the year 1213. During the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. A local noble family is occupied in the 13th century. Together with the Franche -Comté Angirey came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. During the Second World War Angirey was burnt down.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Martin dates from the 18th century and has a remarkable interior, including a richly carved pulpit, a crucifix from the 16th century and an altar from the 18th century. Outside the church stands an iron cross from the 18th century. Also worth seeing is the covered Lavoir that once served as well, wash and livestock watering. It was built in 1809 by architect Jean -Claude Disqueux.

Population

With 131 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Angirey one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1911 241 persons were still counted ), they remained at an approximately constant level since the mid 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Angirey was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Gray to La Chapelle -Saint- Quillain. Further road links exist with Igny and Citey.
