Bruce Perens

Bruce Perens is an American computer scientist. He is considered the personality of the Free Software movement. He is a former project manager for Debian, the lead author of the Open Source Definition, a founder of the nonprofit organization Software in the Public Interest ( SPI) and founder of the Open Source Initiative ( OSI).

Perens left 1999, the OSI after a year and distanced himself from the term Open Source in an e- mail with the subject It's Time to Talk About Free Software Again. Because of its prominent role, he was the only natural person by the Free Software Foundation Europe as supporters of their campaign we speak of free software listed.

Perens is the editor of the series Bruce Perens ' Open Source Series by Prentice Hall PTR. His project of a Linux distribution Linux user is to be regarded since 2005 as a failure because of the success of Ubuntu.
