Bruno Adler

Bruno Maria Eagle, and anagram pseudonym Roedl Urban ( born October 14, 1889 in Karlsbad, Austria - Hungary, † December 27, 1968 in London ) was a German art historian, literary critic and broadcaster in the German program of the BBC.

Life

Studying in Vienna, Erlangen and Munich joined Eagle in 1917 with a doctorate. Between 1920 and 1930 he was a teacher of art history at the Art Academy of Weimar. For working at the Bauhaus Johannes Itten eagle 1921 was the publisher of the Utopia - publisher and editor of a programmatic font Utopia: Documents of reality ( Itten: Experiencing A work of art is, this experience again ), created for the Eagles translations of the Rigveda and Nicholas of Cusa. Eagle at this time was also editor of works of Adalbert Stifter and Matthias Claudius.

After the seizure of power by the National Socialists in Germany Adler was forced to flee to Prague. In 1936 he went to England. As Rowohlt published the biography of Adalbert Stifter under eagle pseudonym Urban Roedl, led to the prohibition Rowohlts because the publisher was held to camouflage Jewish writers. Adler was at times a teacher at the New School Mr. Lingen (also called Bunce Court School ), a company founded by the Quakers emigrated country school for Jewish children.

During World War I, Adler worked in the German department of the BBC. Adler was the inventor of the artificial character Wernicke woman that was sent in the women's program of the "German service " between the summer of 1940 and January 1944. Mrs. Wernicke, spoken by the émigré Berlin actress Anne Marie Hare, is a small Berlin citizen who equipped with a loose mouth and common sense, made the Nazis ridiculous. " Kurt and Willi" wrote Roedl together with the English poet Norman Cameron, also this series came from the everyday life of the German population. He was editor of the magazine " New Elite ", which was published by Allied Information Service.

The Ilse Katz and his wife fed suitable donor biography was reprinted in 1958 in Germany and Adler recalled in the preface that, at the time wanted to have one of the reviewers " make the author summarily harmless ". Roedl he was also the author of the monograph on Rowohlt Adalbert Stifter, which he dedicated to Erich Heller.
