Bruno Gamberini

Bruno Gamberini (* July 16, 1950 in Matão; † August 28, 2011 in São Paulo) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Campinas.

Life

Gamberini, third of five children of Armando Gamberini and Tirso Castellani Gamberini, was in the Bom Jesus de Matão Christened Cathedral and received Confirmation. After attending the public schools Inocêncio José da Costa and Prof. Henrique Morato in Matão he studied from 1968 to 1970 philosophy at the diocesan seminary in São Carlos and 1971-1974 theology at a branch of the Pontifical Lateran University in Curitiba. He also studied choral singing and conducting at Pró - Música de Curitiba. On 2 December 1973 he was ordained a deacon in São Carlos. On December 11, 1974, he received by Bishop Constantino Amstalden in the Bom Jesus de Matão Cathedral ordination. He worked as a priest in São Carlos, also Professor of Philosophy (1975-1977) and Dean of the Faculty of Arts (1991-1995) at the Seminary of the Diocese of São Carlos. He was coordinator of the Diocesan Pastoral of the Diocese of San Carlos (1978-1979), pastor of Ribeirão Bonito in São Paulo (1979-1981), the first auditor of the judges chamber at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of São Carlos (1980-1984) as well as notary of the Court until 1995. from 1982 to 1986 he was rector of the Theological Seminary of São Carlos, Campinas. From 1987 to 1989, he assumed the pastorate in Itajobi and Marapoama. Since 1983 he was a member of the cathedral chapter of São Carlos.

On 17 May 1995 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Bragança Paulista, consecrated on 16 July 1995 by Constantino Amstalden, Bishop of São Carlos. Co-consecrators were his predecessors in Bragança Paulista, Bishop Antônio Pedro Misiara, and later Archbishop of Fortaleza, José Antônio Aparecido Tosi Marques. His motto was Nomen Domini benedictum (Portuguese Bendito o nome do Senhor, eng. Blessed be the name of the Lord). On 2 June 2004 he was appointed Archbishop of Campinas.

He was in the South region of the Roman Catholic Church in Brazil advisor to the Pastoral of the Child ( 1996), presiding bishop of the sub-region of Campinas ( 1999-2003), member of the Pastoral Council (1999-2003), member of the Economic Council ( 2003), Bishop of the pastoral Conference (1998-2009), Bishop of the Pueri Cantores (2005-2009) and a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Aparecida, the most important national Marian Shrine in Brazil ( 2007-2009). He was Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas.

He died on 28 August 2011 after an illness stay in the Pontifical Catholic University Hospital " Celso Pierro " from Campinas to multi-organ failure at the Hospital Bandeirantes in Liberdade in São Paulo.
