Bruno Maldaner

Bruno Maldaner (* August 4, 1924 in Pinhal Alto in Nova Petrópolis, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, † 16 November, 2008 Ijuí, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Frederico Westphalen Brazil.

Life

Bruno Maldaner studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the seminary in Gravataí (1938-1943) and in São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul (1944-1947) and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome ( 1947-1951 ). He was ordained priest on December 8, 1950 in Rome by Cardinal Benedetto Aloisi Masella. After pastoral work in the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre, he was from 1951 to 1955 professor at the seminary in Gravataí and at the Pontifical University of Rio Grande do Sul ( PUCRS ). From 1956 to 1965 he worked at the Apostolic Nunciature in Rio de Janeiro.

In 1966 he was called by Pope Paul VI. appointed Titular Bishop of Aquae in Mauretania and appointed Auxiliary Bishop of São Paulo. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of São Paulo and later Cardinal, Agnelo Rossi on 29 June of the same year in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Sao Paulo. Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Frederico Westphalen, João Aloysio Hoffmann, and Luís Edmundo Kunz, Auxiliary Bishop of Porto Alegre.

As a bishop he was responsible for the pastoral care in the eastern region, especially for the creation of 18 new municipalities. He became known as the director of the mission radios in Porto Alegre. He was also secretary of the Commission for the regions in the Brazilian Bishops' Conference. Paul VI appointed him in 1971. the second Bishop of Frederico Westphalen.

His old conditional resignation took John Paul II, 2001. He died after an operation on the consequences of heart failure in Ijuí in Rio Grande do Sul.
