History

Already in 11-12. Century there was a settlement on the site of the present Brześć Kujawski. The first written mention of the town dates of 23 April 1228. Town charter was the place 1250. 1236, the city became the seat of a duchy. 1260 to have been born in Poland Władysław I the Elbow- later King here. 1332 the place as quite Kuyavian was conquered by the Teutonic Knights, to King Casimir III. as part of the peace treaty with the Order to Kalisch 1343 reacquired the land for Poland. At the Second Partition of Poland in 1793, the town was part of Prussia. With the formation of the Duchy of Warsaw Brześć Kujawski was part of the same 1807 and 1815 part of Congress Poland in personal union with the Russian Empire. From 1918 onwards, the city with the restoration of Polish independence was part of Poland. In September 1939, the Wehrmacht marched into the village. 1945, the Red Army reached the city and Brześć Kujawski was again part of Poland.

The city is located on the regional road 62 of Strzelno after Wloclawek. The nearest international airport is the Władysław Reymont Airport in Łódź, he lies about 100 kilometers south.
