The Bubenik, Upper Sorbian Bubnik, also referred to as Großdehsaer mountain or Mittaschberg, is a 375.9 meter high mountain in Upper Lusatia.

Location

The basalt mountain is located 4 km west of Lobau. To the north are the Löbauer Großdehsa district and the district Lawalder Kleindehsa. Both villages separated by the valley of the Litte representing the western and southern boundary of the mountain and separates him from the opposite, for Czornebohmassiv associated Kötzschauer mountain. The Bubenik forms with the 300 m northerly little Landeskrone ( 376.9 m) a double peak. On the eastern slope of Bubenik the source of the rare pure, at the then extends the village Oelsa is.

The name of the mountain comes from the Sorbian, its exact derivation is, however, unclear. A connection with the Upper Sorbian Bubno ( drum) as a result of his figure is speculative.

The Bubenik forms with the little ones Landeskrone a twin peaks of two volcanic cones approximately the same height between which there is a saddle in 361 m. The term Small Landeskrone explained by the similarity of the summit with 420 m high country crown at Görlitz. The Bubenik offers a wide view over the valley of Löbauer water with the City of Lobau and the Löbauer Mountain, the northern Lusatian mountains, for Rotstein, the country's crown and the Kottmar.

At its peak a columnar basalt formation is visible, which is referred to as a lion heads because of their shape. The northern summit " Small country crown " is passed with deciduous forest, while the rockier south summit is covered by dry bushes.

The former quarry operation began in 1850 and served the extraction of gravel. He was hired around 1905. Because of its rare flora, which, inter alia, part of the Neottia and Sanikel, the mountain has been declared a natural monument in 1938.
