Bučany

Bučany (Hungarian Bucsány ) is a municipality in western Slovakia, with 2279 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). The municipality lies in the kraj Okres Trnava and District Trnavský is Slovak to 99%; religiously dominated the Roman Catholic Church with 95.8 % ( 2001 census).

Geography

The municipality is located in the hills Trnavská pahorkatina, which is part of the Slovak Danube lowland. When you place the rivers Blava and Dudváh flow together. Bučany located nine kilometers northeast of the city of Trnava.

History

The place is an old settlement site, with finds of Lausitz, Hallstatt and La Tène culture. Furthermore Bučany site of a grave circle system.

The town was first mentioned in writing in 1258. 1268 the place was appropriated by King Béla IV of the sons of Trnava mayor Cunta. In 1289 he became the seat of Bucsányi family; over the centuries and families Ocskay, Zay and Pongrácz are represented.

1435 Hussites plundered the attacking from the village. 1828 the community had 130 houses and 913 inhabitants, who were mostly employed in agriculture. Until 1892, the municipality announced an upper and a lower part (Hungarian Nagybucsány and Kisbucsány ).
