Buccaneer (musician)

Buccaneer (actually Andrew Bradford, born 1974 in Jamaica) is a Jamaican dancehall musician.

Life

Andrew Bradford grew up in Havendale, a suburb of Kingston. His mother left him at the time to learn the piano and classical music. The family later had to move to Waltham Park, one of the poorer quarters of Kingston. There, Bradford began at local sound system to try as a DJ. A friend gave him, inspired by a colorful pirate costume that bore Bradford at a gig, nicknamed Buccaneer ( German: Buccaneer ), who became his stage name.

Buccaneer developed in the early 1990s a friendship with the musician and producer Danny Browne and spent some time in King Jammys studio, where he worked with other producers. In 1995 appeared Buccaneers debut album Now There Goes The Neighbourhood. But it was not until the following year, up to the single Skettel Concerto a breakthrough to success in Jamaica. The song provided with samples of classical music and dramatic Buccaneers singjay style is a maverick. The piece was published in 1997 along with other songs in a similar style, but also with very direct dancehall pieces that are as much Buccaneers repertoire, on the next album Classic. In 1998 followed with Da Opera Buccaneers third album.

As a result, Buccaneer was also active as a music producer, but also took more of their own songs or in cooperation with other dancehall artists such as Bounty Killer, Mr. Vegas and the Scare Dem Crew.
