The carrying stream originates at the northern edge of the Berglen, the southwestern part of the Swabian- Franconian Forest. Its headwaters located on the ridge between the municipalities Berglen and rowing mountain south of the hamlet Königsbronnhof. Conservation

Under special protection of the underflow is from Steinächle together with the valley sides, for the 118 hectares in reserve Buchenbachtal was established.
