The Budapest Keleti railway station ( Keleti pu abbreviated, German. Ostbahnhof ) is the most important of the three major international railway stations in the Hungarian capital Budapest, next to the train stations Budapest Nyugati palyaudvar and Deli palyaudvar, as this is approached by most international trains.

Location

The station is located on the east side of the Baross tér in Pest, District VIII ( Józsefváros ). Northeast of him is the Ferenc Puskás Stadium and south of the Kerepesi temető, the official resting place Hungarian names from politics and culture.

On the west side of the Baross tér, the station Keleti is palyaudvar the M2 metro line, between the vezér Deli palyaudvar in the west of Buda and Ors tere runs to the east of Pest. At the same place further hold a leading southeast tram line, and several trolleybus, bus and express bus lines.

History

Built in the neo-Renaissance style head station was planned and built in the years 1881-1884 by the railway engineer and the architect János Feketeházy Gyula Rochlitz.

At the opening he was considered one of the most modern railway stations in Central Europe, since he possessed one of the first on electric lighting and a central switchboard. In 1998 he was restored from the outside.
