Budgie (Band)

Budgie (English " budgie ") is a founded in 1968, hard rock band from Cardiff, Wales. The group is known by their common work, through the epic song " Parents", by two gecoverte by Metallica title, and the cover art by Roger Dean. The most famous song of the band in Germany was the gecoverte song Baby Please Do not Go by Joe Williams. Ultimately, the band has never become really famous. The unique voice of Burke Shelley and the extraordinary heavy metal sound of the group on the first three LPs were probably ahead of their time.

Band History

In the founding year 1968 was the original cast of Burke Shelley ( John Burke Shelley, born April 10, 1947 in Cardiff ) on bass and vocals, Tony Bourge (Anthony Bourge, born November 23, 1948 in Cardiff ) on guitar and vocals, and Ray Phillips ( Raymond Phillips, born March 1, 1945 in Tiger Bay ) on drums.

My untitled debut album was produced by the producer of Black Sabbath, Rodger Bain and released in 1971. 's Second album Squawk was published in 1972, her third album Never Turn Your Back On A Friend 1973. Then left Ray Philips, the band and was replaced by Pete Boot ( Peter Charles boot, * 30 September 1950 in West Bromwich) is replaced on drums, with which also the fourth album in for the Kill was recorded in 1974. The cover for this album designed Roger Dean. In 1975, once again a new drummer, Steve Williams. The band was counted in 1980 to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and appeared as main group at the Reading Festival. Likewise Budgie seen as the first Western hard rock band that occurred behind the Iron Curtain, as they played in 1982 in Poland. In 1984 they were the opening act for Ozzy Osbourne. In 1988, she completed her performances provisionally, to devote himself to studio productions and other projects. So John Thomas collaborated on the CD ' Phenomena ' with Glenn Hughes.

After some time Budgie came together again and went again sporadically, so three times at the festival La Semana Alegre in San Antonio, Texas, in the years 1995, 1996 and 2000 and as the main group at the " Welsh Legends of Rock Festival " in 2001. In subsequent years, the band was back on broader tours, including in England, USA, Sweden and Poland. In late 2006, a 35 -concert tour of England was scheduled. A new studio album was under the working title Ears Pierced While You Wait in preparation, but then was on 7 November 2006 under the title You're All Living In Cuckooland published. In addition to the studio albums, there are numerous compilations and bootlegs and fan club publications.

The current lineup consists of Craig Goldy (guitar), Burke Shelley (bass, vocals) and Steve Williams (drums).
