Buller District

The Buller District is the northernmost of three districts in the region located on the South Island West Coast.

Geography

The district is bordered to the north and east region and also Tasman District, on the southeast by the Hurunui District ( Canterbury region ) in the south to the Grey District and the entire west coast is on the Tasman Sea.

The district is located west of the Southern Alps, the South East is in the midst of these mountains. Gastronomic centers include the Pancake Rocks and Cape Foul wind on the coast. The important State Highways SH 6 and SH 7 pass through the district.

Population

Capital and largest city of the district is Westport with about 5000 inhabitants. Other towns are Reefton, Karamea and Punakaiki.
