The Federal Highway 111 (abbreviated as BAB 111) - Short form: Highway 111 ( Abbreviation: A 111 ) - runs completely since December 1987 in the north of Berlin, connecting the Berlin city motorway ( A 100) with the Berlin Ring (A 10 ) from the junction Charlottenburg on the former cross Reinickendorf to Oranienburg. Between junctions Schulzendorfer road and Waidmannsluster dam was the road a long time as B 111 without historical reference to the actual state road 111 in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The A 111 was used by December 31, 1987 until German reunification in 1990 for transit traffic through the GDR to Hamburg and Malmö (Sweden ) to the border crossing Heiligensee / Stolpe.
From 1975 until the reunification of the highway was designated as A 11. As part of the numbering of the motorways in eastern Germany after 1990 then the new number A 111 has been assigned.
