Formerly was the course of the B 111 to the Polish border on the island of Usedom in the town of Heringsdorf, district seaside resort Ahlbeck.

History

The main road from Szczecin to Stralsund (now B109 ) was built in 1833-1836 as the first road in Western Pomerania. Until 1848 a branch line was built to Wolgast, the course of today's B corresponds to 111. Their continuation after Gützkow and Jarman was completed in 1856.

The road on the island of Usedom began only in the second half of the 19th century. In the years 1872-1874, the eastern section from Swinoujscie to Heringsdorf, which was extended in 1878 to 1881 after Pudagla arose. The western section from Wolgast to Zinnowitz was 1882. With the completion of the last section of line between Zinnowitz and Pudagla in 1887 the continuous road connection between Wolgast and Świnoujście has been completed.

The 1932 serves up highway 111 ( FVS 111), from 1934 Reichsstrasse 111 (R 111 ), called linked the islands of Usedom and Wolin with the Pomeranian mainland and culminated in Gollnow in the Reichsstrasse 2 The section east of Swinoujscie is one of the former kingdom of roads in Pomerania.

On June 24, 1934 bascule bridge spanning the river Peene at Wolgast was built, which was blown up on 30 April 1945. Soon after the war, the bridge was rebuilt and reopened on 27 March 1950 under the name "Bridge of Friendship ".

In the 1990s, a new combined road and railway bascule bridge was built in Wolgast. It was released for the road and in 2000 for rail traffic in 1996, the old bridge was demolished. In addition, the lines changed in the town of Wolgast, to relieve the historic center. To ensure that no other level crossing was built, a new route with a railway bridge was built in the district Mahlzow.

In 2005, the ring road Gützkow was completed as part of the B 111.

Other plans provide a bypass for Wolgast. For a further bridge over the river Peene is necessary. This is to be designed as a high bridge.
