When planning the route from Koblenz on forest Esch, Hermes wedge and Saar castle to the border Perl oriented themselves largely on an old Roman road. The building was quickly promoted because of the particular strategic importance, so that in just 100 days, already 140 km were completed. Here, however, many existing routes were included. A special feature is that the line has been designed without the construction of bridges. Was carried out the construction of the Organisation Todt workers. Due to its course on the high altitudes of the Hunsrück, the track was also called imperial high road. Today it is called Hunsrückhöhenstraße.

The construction of the Empire High Road theme is repeated in the fourth film of the epic film home of Edgar Reitz.

In the course of building the A 1 of section Hermes wedge -Saar castle was rezoned to B 407; while the B 327 was the route Hermes wedge - Nonnweiler - Tholey - Bars Mountain ( near Saarbrücken ) assigned.
