The Castle (also: Castle Biederthal ) is located in the Swiss town of Burg im Leimental.

Location

The castle is located on the eastern spur of the Felsgrates beautiful hill above the village the castle and its extensive building complex dominates the village.

History

About the origin of the castle is confusion. The oldest parts of the system date back to the mid 13th century and it is likely that the mention of a castle Biederthal in the 12th century refers to the Ruine Alt - Biederthal on the same ridge. As a Habsburg possession of the castle goes to a branch of the wealthy in the rear blue field house Ratolsdorf. Among the gentlemen of Biederthal from the house Ratolsdorf 1250 is the Castle Biederthal, built the present castle. In 1269 the Bishop of Basel acquires the lock and gives it first to 1392 to the Lords of Biederthal further and then the Lords of Wessenberg be invested with the festivities. The castle was sold in 1810 to private individuals and is still privately owned and not open to the public.
