Wildenstein Castle (Bubendorf)

The Wildenstein Castle is the only surviving hilltop castle of the Basel region. It is located south of Bubendorf, in a tributary of the Back Frenke and was until recently still inhabited.

History

1293 took the name Heinrich Eptingen " of Wildenstein " to. Under his son gottfrid Wildenstein experienced due to a breach of the peace of its owner in 1334, a storming of the castle by the Berne and Solothurn. The extent of this damage and that of the Basel earthquake of 1356 are not known. 1380 sold Henmann Eptingen the castle to the siblings Elsi, Götzmann and March Warden of Baden. Later, several changes of ownership occurred. Near the castle of the " black horse war" was settled amicably in 1594.

1995 acquired the canton of Basel-Land the Wildenstein, and today the scene of regular cultural events.
